KIDS
Empeethree, Mix that Drink
As if everyone isn’t already fed up with MGMT, I decided to make my own little version of “Kids,” which hit the blogs this week. It’s more of a cover than a remix, as there are no parts of the original in it. Vocals are done by my computer.

Vamos a la Playa
DJ Tools, EmpeethreeThe classic Italo-Disco song “Vamos a la Playa” by Righeira has gotten a 2008 update. DJ Leon Klein (or is it Leon Klein DJ) has just released a 12″ featuring four updated remixes. I am a huge fan of the original and don’t think these versions butchered the original too badly. Check it out at Juno. Below is the original track along with an edit I made that transitions from the origin to the more “electro-house” sound of the Leon Klein & Chrise Reece mix.

New Basement Jaxx
Empeethree
Another perfect summer-time track. This time from Basement Jaxx, who, as expected, bring their A-game with their ragga flavor. “Wheel N Stop” features Serocee and should be out on the future Jaxx album, which hopefully comes sooner than later.

I Kissed a Girl
Empeethree, Mix that Drink
Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” is one of those songs that is just impossible to escape this summer. If you’re a DJ, you can finally play the song without losing your pride. Ol’ Head Inc (Dirty South Joe and DJ Sega) bring us this club remix that will make the people dance.

Keedz are NOT Justice
Empeethree, Mix that Drink
There has been a rumor around the “blogosphere” that the track “Stand on the World” by Keedz has something to with Justice. The fact is this track is simply a rip-off of the Justice sound and has nothing to with the band (despite the fact that Justice is listed as the number one friend on Keedz’ myspace.) It seems that Universal France is trying to make a D.A.N.C.E 2008 with this track, using the the forumal of choir vocals + slap bass line.
The history of this song is actually quite interesting.
From Discogs:
Stand On The Word” was first ever recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, NYC, in 1982. Soon after the church pressed up a couple of hundred copies for the congregation, a couple of blocks away from Walter Gibbons’ Jus Born recording studios. Walter Gibbons had already turned new born Christian since a few years, avid Gospel records collector with that; and played the original recording often behind the counter at the 7th av. Rock and Soul shop were he worked. Walter Gibbons must be credited to have revealed this Phyllis McKoy Joubert song to New York most discerning DJs and soulful dance music aficionados, as it quickly became a Garage, Loft and Zanzibar club classic and ended up remixed by Tony Humphries for this wider release
The legendary DJ Larry Levan re-edited the original track to make it a disco staple. Below I have given you the three versions. The Joubert Singers have an alias called the Celestial Choir, which is why the original is tagged as such.
